About the museum
The museum is housed in Villa Pecori Giraldi, in the locality of Rimorelli in Borgo San Lorenzo, in the Mugello. The villa, once the home of the counts Pecori Giraldi, was donated to the Comune in 1979. The building has a façade in Renaissance taste, topped by a crenellated tower restored in 1902, and is largely decorated by members of the Chini family: Pietro Alessio, Leto and Tito, as well as Galileo Chini, who worked on the great entrance hall between 1906 and 1911.
The permanent collection is devoted to the artistic history of Galileo Chini and his family. The route opens with ceramics designed for the Arte della Ceramica and for the Fornaci San Lorenzo, then illustrates the different media used by the artist. The historic rooms are complemented by spaces for contemporary art (Chini Contemporary) and a museum for children, the Museo dei Bambini.
From 3 November 2025 the museum has been temporarily closed to complete the redevelopment works on the villa.
