About the museum
The museum occupies a farmhouse already documented in the 16th century, isolated among woods and fields on the Erci stream, north of Grezzano. The last family of peasants left the smallholding “Il Casino” in 1962, and the following year the area passed to the state domain, today regional.
The Gruppo d’Erci, which came into being de facto in 1977 and was officially constituted in 1982, organised a temporary exhibition in 1977; the following year, 1978, the permanent exhibition was set up in the house. From 1984 the museum has been regularly open to the public on public holidays, with shifts of volunteer members.
More than 2,000 objects, accompanied by texts and images, reconstruct sharecropping culture between the late 19th and the first half of the 20th century. Around the house, with its kitchen, cellar and stable, there are outbuildings housing other sections (the old sheepfold, the sawmill and the olive press), a historical-natural trail and a teaching workshop for activities with schools, meetings, exhibitions and seminars. The museum also has an archive of more than 2,000 farm documents, a library and a collection of about 2,400 photographs.
