About the museum
The Collezioni Comunali d'Arte are housed in Palazzo d'Accursio, the city hall on Piazza Maggiore, in the apartments that were occupied by the cardinal legate from the 16th century until 1859. The original core dates to 1744, when Marcantonio Collina Sbaraglia gave the Senate of Bologna a series of canvases by Donato Creti.
The route gathers paintings, objects, furniture, porcelain and textiles from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century. Among the oldest works are medieval painted crosses and panels by Vitale da Bologna and Jacopo di Paolo, followed by paintings of the 15th and early 16th centuries and numerous Emilian works of the 17th century.
The Galleria Vidoniana holds 18 canvases with mythological and allegorical subjects by Donato Creti, which form the nucleus from which the collection originated. The Collections are part of the system of the Musei Civici d'Arte Antica of the Comune di Bologna.
