About the museum

The ecomuseum was founded in 1996 on the initiative of the Gran Bosco di Salbertrand natural park and is today managed by the Ente di gestione delle Aree protette delle Alpi Cozie (the body managing the protected areas of the Alpi Cozie). It takes its name from Colombano Romean, a miner who from 1526 spent eight years digging the Pertus tunnel.

The circular route, about 5 km long, passes thirteen sites linked to traditional life and work in the village and the forest, including the Martinet water mill, the Oulme wood-fired oven, the treasury museum of the parish church, the chapel of the Annunciation at Oulme, two stone fountains, the Hôtel-Dieu, an ice house, a replica of a smoke sauna, a charcoal kiln, a lime kiln, a forest site and the entrance to a mine.

Without a guide the sites can only be seen from the outside; access to the interiors requires guided tours, sometimes offered in dramatised form with the association ArTeMuDa.
