About the museum
The Ecomuseo del Vertice is an open-air industrial archaeology museum located at Valtournenche, along the route of the penstocks of the Gran Balconata del Cervino, near the alpine pastures of La Mande and the Goillet dam.
Its collections document the hydroelectric works built in the 1920s and 1930s: the Vertice, the Tracciolino, the Les Perrères power station and the artificial reservoir. Information panels explain how the water of the Marmore torrent was used to produce energy and what remains of those installations.
The route includes the machinery which, with a cable winch, hauled the carriages from the Les Perrères power station up to the Vertice, a starting device, a Brown-Boveri locomotive and the wagons that ran along the Tracciolino up to the upstream side of the dam. The museum partly occupies the building of the Compagnia Valdostana delle Acque, where there is also an exhibition area.
