About the museum
Baron Luigi Beck-Peccoz, of a noble Walser family, provided in his will, drawn up in Augsburg on 11 February 1882, that his collection of trophies should be moved to Gressoney and placed in a building constructed for the purpose. The brothers Antonio and Carlo, executors of the will, had the museum built at Predeloasch, near Villa Margherita; the building dates from 1904. Egon Beck-Peccoz, Antonio's son, arranged the collection in rooms decorated with frescoes in German taste.
In 1986 the Autonomous Region of the Aosta Valley bought the building and the collections. The Aosta Valley Forestry Corps designed the new display while preserving the historic collections.
The trophy collection, begun by Johann Christoph Beck and expanded by his son Joseph Anton, numbers about 2,000 pieces, mostly horns mounted on shields: chamois, ibex, deer, roe deer and exotic species, some specimens being of scientific interest for their bone malformations. The museum also holds about 90 long and short weapons, including finely decorated hunting rifles, and family memorabilia such as portraits, paintings and books on Alpine fauna and flora.
