About the museum
The Musée Petit-Monde is in the hamlet of Triatel, in Torgnon, and is housed in a complex of three of the oldest rural buildings in the village: a raccard on larch stilts, a grange for threshing grain and a grenier for storing provisions. Sources date the structures between the 15th century and 1700, and the complex has been preserved in excellent condition.
The museum tells the story, work and daily life of the mountain community. The objects, donated by families of the village, are arranged by theme: hay, mule, cereals, livestock, milk, bread, carpentry, wood-cutting, meat and kitchen life. On the ground floor the “Labirinto della memoria” (Labyrinth of Memory) traces the history of the area with panels, while on the upper floors the rooms of rural life have been recreated.
The visit ends at a mill along the Petit-Monde stream. A virtual visit is also available on the museum’s website.
