About the museum
The Ecomuseo Sogno di Luce is dedicated to Alessandro Cruto, an inventor born in Piossasco in 1847, and to his discovery of the carbon filament for the electric light bulb. Cruto had no formal training but great ingenuity; he was pursuing the dream of producing artificial diamonds, and from that experience came the first synthetic carbon filament.
The factory Cruto built in Alpignano began producing patented light bulbs on an international scale in 1886. The name of Alpignano has remained linked to lamps ever since, including through the Philips plant there. Today the building houses the ecomuseum, which unfolds along three routes dedicated to Cruto's discovery and aims to give him the recognition he deserves.
The ecomuseum is part of the Rete Ecomusei del Piemonte (Piedmont ecomuseum network). The Associazione Amici dell'Ecomuseo Sogno di Luce organises events, exhibitions and educational activities during the year and, by appointment, hosts groups and schools with science workshops.
