About the museum
The Antica Fabbrica di Passamanerie was founded in 1843 by the Massia family, who have run it without interruption ever since. The visit takes place in a workshop museum that houses historic machinery and traces the history of the company, one of the oldest in its sector in Europe.
During the tour, visitors follow the stages of hand weaving, the making of cords and the finishing of trimmings, techniques still used today for furnishings ranging from theatre decorations to haute couture. The tour includes an overview of galloni (braids), alamari (frogging), fringes and tassels, a look at the historic Massia creations, a visit to the archive and a live demonstration by craftspeople working on the hand-operated mechanical looms still in use.
