About the museum
The Ferrania Film Museum tells the story of the photosensitive materials factory founded in 1917 in Ferrania, in the Val Bormida. For decades it was Italy's only producer of photographic, cinematographic and radiographic films, and it made the name of the village a brand known around the world.
The museum is on the second floor of Palazzo Scarampi in Cairo Montenotte, which is owned by the municipality, and opened in 2018. It is managed by the Cooperativa Sociale Lanza del Vasto, which also organises cultural events, exhibitions and screenings.
The route is designed as a sequence of rooms presenting the different aspects of the industrial story: the factory, corporate culture, design and communication, architecture, products, the war years and more recent times. The collections come largely from the photographic archive of the plant, the Giuseppe Reggio archive and the archive of the Fondazione 3M.
