About the museum
The museum was founded on 11 May 2002 in Savona, after a large collection of Apple computers was found in a disused warehouse of the firm Briano Computer. Alessio Ferraro, its founder, president and one of its co-founders, obtained the use of the collection as a gift from the firm’s new manager.
The machines on display tell the story of the birth, evolution and transformation of personal computing: the exhibition presents itself as the richest collection of Apple products in the world, from the beginnings in 1976 to the present day, and as the only museum of its kind with pieces switched on and usable by visitors.
The catalogue comprises more than 9,000 objects: personal computers by Apple and others (Commodore, Atari, Olivetti and other machines of the pioneering era), prototypes and cult objects, monitors, printers, peripherals, manuals, brochures, posters, software and packaging. The museum is located in the new basin (darsena) of Savona.
