Curated by Marco Marzini, the exhibition explores the shared design approaches of Achille Castiglioni and Bruno Munari, united by an essential design attentive to the experience of those who use objects. Visits are by reservation, with a guided tour.
About the museum
The Studio Museo Achille Castiglioni is located in Piazza Castello in Milan, in the rooms where the designer and architect Achille Castiglioni worked for more than forty years, first together with his brother Pier Giacomo and from 1968 on his own. In January 2006 the heirs signed an agreement with the Triennale di Milano to open the studio to the public and continue the archive work.
Given the success achieved, the family decided to continue the project, and on 14 December 2011 the Fondazione Achille Castiglioni was established; it was recognised by Lombardy Region in 2014. The Foundation catalogues, organises and digitises projects, drawings, photographs, models, films, books and magazines linked to more than sixty years of activity, and promotes knowledge of Italian design.
The guided tour passes through the four rooms of the studio: the first holds prototypes and models, the second the drafting machines and many curiosities, the third the anonymous objects that Castiglioni collected and used in his lectures at the Politecnico (Polytechnic) to explain design principles, while the meeting room brings together objects that have marked the history of design.
