About the museum
The Fondazione Pirelli was established in 2008 by the company and the Pirelli family to preserve and make known the company's documentation, whose history begins in 1872. It is based in the Bicocca complex in Milan, near the Villa degli Arcimboldi, within the group's headquarters.
At the heart of the Foundation is the Archivio Storico (Historical Archive): about four kilometres of material including photographs, sketches, advertising posters, documents and publications, declared of cultural interest by the heritage authority (Soprintendenza) since 1972. Alongside the archive, two libraries operate: one technical-scientific and one dedicated to the history of the company.
The Foundation promotes the company's heritage through exhibitions, conferences, publications and guided tours, and supports research in economic and industrial history, architecture, labour, graphic arts and design. It also offers educational routes for schools of all levels and for universities, as well as an online virtual tour.
