About the museum
The museum is part of the Istituto Ricerche Esplosivistiche (I.R.E.) in Parma, a centre for training and consultancy on explosives, founded in 2005 by Danilo Coppe. It serves as an educational resource for professionals in the field and documents both civil and military explosives, including objects linked to unlawful uses, so that countermeasures can be studied.
The exhibition covers about 100 square metres and presents devices, munitions and accessories from 1800 to the present: explosives and detonators, machinery from old explosives factories, a reproduction of a miner with the equipment of the period, finds from the Scientific Police and the RIS of the Carabinieri relating to bomb attacks, and evidence of humanitarian mine clearance and the demilitarisation of munitions. All the objects on display have been rendered inert and serve purely educational purposes.
