About the museum
The Museo storico “Riccardo Barilla” is the museum of the Conservatorio di musica “Arrigo Boito” in Parma. Founded with the support of the Barilla family, its establishment is formally recognised by the conservatoire’s statute of 2004.
The collections include the reconstructed studies of Arrigo Boito and Arturo Toscanini, the Sala Zanfi dedicated to the Mario Zanfi piano competition, a collection of historical instruments, a gallery of portraits, a photographic archive and other donations such as costumes, medals and scrapbooks. Among the instruments noted by specialist sources are a fortepiano by Erard of 1804, a Maggini double bass and a chromatic harp; in the Sala Merulo there is also an organ of the 16th century attributed to Claudio Merulo.
The conservatoire is in Via del Conservatorio. According to its official website, the opening of the museum and its services are currently suspended.
