About the museum
The permanent nativity exhibition is housed in the church of San Francesco d’Assisi in the historic centre of Muggia, reached by a steep staircase. It is the collection of General Consoli, made up of nativity scenes and small Christmas objects from many countries, which the family donated to the parish of Muggia.
Tourist guides describe it as a room where hundreds of nativity scenes from around the world are kept; anyone who wishes to see it must ask to be taken inside the church. The church itself, in Franciscan Gothic style, was built in 1388 and almost entirely renovated in 1411. It keeps tombstones of ancient families, a 15th-century Pietà and a late Gothic nursing Madonna.
