About the museum

The museum is laid out over three floors, each with a distinct section. The ground floor presents the territory of Muggia and its history, through photographs, maps and texts.

On the first floor are finds from the Copper Age to the Middle Ages, from around the 3rd millennium BC to the 14th century AD, drawn from surface collections made in the 1950s and 1960s; the material is divided into six chronological phases, each identified by a colour.

The second floor is devoted to the data from the excavations carried out by the heritage authority (Soprintendenza) since the 1980s on Monte Castellier, near Elleri, a site that was in continuous use from the Early Bronze Age to Roman times.
