About the museum
The Museo Agusta tells the story of more than a century of the Agusta company, today Leonardo Divisione Elicotteri, born in the Cascina Costa di Samarate area, which first became a leading force in motorcycling under the MV Agusta brand and later a world leader in helicopters. It was wanted by the company and by the Gruppo Lavoratori Agusta Seniores and opened in 2002; today it is promoted and run by the Fondazione Museo Agusta.
The rooms, small but rich in exhibits, hold examples of motorcycles and helicopters designed and built by the company from the 1950s onwards. The motorcycle section recalls the models of the motorcycle world championship and riders such as Giacomo Agostini and John Surtees; the helicopter section shows the evolution of vertical flight, among transmissions, design and materials research. The guides are former employees of the group, who accompany visitors with first-hand expertise. On the first floor, a simulator of the 129 helicopter lets visitors try flying.
Next to the museum stands Villa Agusta, a building of 1936 restored and opened to the public since 2017, where the company's historical archive (recognised by the Ministry of Culture), the aeronautical library, photographs, films and more than 20,000 aircraft drawings are kept.
