About the museum
The MAAAP is housed in the former church of Sant’Eufemia, by the Brenta river on the outskirts of Padua, a site that may have been an early Christian, Roman and medieval sanctuary. The area lies near the ancient Via della Lana, a Roman road that linked Padua with the Asiago plateau.
The museum is run by the cultural association La Crose ODV, which presents it as a place of archaeology, ethnology, nature and people’s culture, and as a research laboratory and cultural centre open to the community. It is part of the Global Network of Water Museums.
The collection includes objects in iron, bronze, terracotta and glazed ceramic, including votive offerings, situlae and bronzes recovered from the rivers by the association’s divers. The finds span from the Bronze Age to the 18th century and illustrate in particular the Paleovenetian civilisation and local pottery workshops. Besides visits, the museum organises lectures, concerts, performances, exhibitions and courses, and offers educational programmes for schools of all levels.
