About the museum
The Museo della Natura e dell’Uomo in Padua was created by bringing together four historic university collections: Mineralogy, Geology and Palaeontology, Zoology and Anthropology. It is located at Corso Garibaldi 39, in the historic centre, and is part of the university museum system, together with the Palazzo del Bo and the Orto Botanico (Botanical Garden), a UNESCO site.
The museum holds about 200,000 natural history and anthropological specimens and offers an interactive and multimedia display that presents the Earth as a system in evolution and the relationship between humans and the environment. The route is organised around themes such as Natura e culture (Nature and cultures), Animali e biodiversità (Animals and biodiversity), Nascita delle collezioni (Birth of the collections), Sistema Terra (Earth System), Tempo profondo (Deep time) and Società del passato (Society of the past).
The opening is linked to the celebrations of the eight-hundredth anniversary of the University of Padua and continues the scientific tradition of the city, which boasts a 16th-century anatomical theatre and one of the first botanical gardens in Europe.
