About the museum

The Museo archeologico comunale Giovanni Patroni is in the historic centre of Pula, in a typical 18th-century Campidanese house donated to the community by the Frau family around the 1930s. The collection began in 1985 as the municipal Antiquarium (site museum) and since 1990 has been named after the archaeologist Giovanni Patroni, former director of the Regio Museo Archeologico di Cagliari, author of a fundamental study of the necropolis and the tophet of Nora.

After a closure lasting more than a decade, the museum reopened on 28 March 2026 with a completely new layout, curated by the Fondazione Pula Cultura Diffusa. The route unfolds over two floors, both thematic and chronological, and tells the story of public and private life, water and the sea, worship and death in the city of Nora.

The rooms hold an important part of the finds from the excavations of the ancient urban centre, from the Phoenician landing site to the Roman and Late Antique city, and link the place of discovery with the place of conservation. The visit is designed in close dialogue with the archaeological area of Nora, for which a combined ticket is available.
