About the museum
The museum is housed in the early 20th-century residence once owned by the Boncompagni Ludovisi family, on Via Boncompagni in Rome. The family gave the building to the Italian State in 1972, and since 1995 it has operated as a centre devoted to decorative arts, fashion and costume.
Between 1996 and 2022 the collections grew through numerous acquisitions. The museum includes furniture, furnishings, costumes, fashion accessories, paintings and sculptures, with particular attention to taste, comfort and Italian production of the 20th century.
A donation of great importance is the wardrobe of Palma Bucarelli, with clothes, jewellery and accessories that accompany the history of modern Italian art from the 1940s to the 1970s. The museum also hosts theatre and music events.
