About the museum
The Museo Civico Archeologico opened in 1997 and comprises two exhibition rooms. The first is devoted to the caves at the locality of Calda, which hold fundamental evidence for the study of prehistory in southern Italy, from the Mesolithic (around 8000 BC) to the Bronze Age (around 1300 BC). Stone and bone tools and pottery fragments are on display. The cave site is a few metres from the museum.
The second room presents the tomb goods of the indigenous Oenotrian necropolis of Colle dei Greci, about six kilometres from the village. They date from the 7th and 6th centuries BC and show influences both from the Greek culture of the western colonies and from the Etruscan culture of Campania.
