About the museum

The Civic Museum of Feltre was founded in 1903 and has been housed since 1928 in Palazzo Villabruna, a building with a 15th-century layout in the form of a Venetian palazzo-fondaco, severely damaged during the War of the League of Cambrai and rebuilt in the 16th century. The Municipality bought it after the First World War, and the architect Alberto Alpago-Novello oversaw its restoration and first display in the 1920s.

In the 1950s an adjoining building was added and the collections were reorganised by Francesco Valcanover, with the archaeology section entrusted to Giulia Fogolari. The route recalls the home of a patrician family: on the ground floor a new archaeology section, inaugurated on 29 April 2022, presents finds from Roman Feltre in seven rooms, including the statue of Aesculapius, an altar dedicated to Anna Perenna, sculptures, inscriptions and architectural elements.

On the upper floors paintings, furniture, wooden sculptures and ceramics from the 15th to the 19th century are displayed, with works attributed to Gentile Bellini, Cima da Conegliano, Palma il Giovane and Pietro Liberi, as well as a model of a fountain by Valentino Panciera Besarel from 1863.
