About the museum
The Museo comunale, opened in 2014, offers an overview of the historical and religious identity of the Tuscan Alta Valmarecchia. It is located in the centre of the village, in the same building that houses the visitor centre “Natura e Uomini”, dedicated to the Alpe della Luna and Pratieghi.
The rooms hold mineralogical specimens, fossils and archaeological finds together with fragments of architectural decoration from the medieval, Romanesque and Lombard periods. The lapidarium brings together material coming mainly from the church of San Michele Arcangelo: an arched festoon that decorated the portal, fragments of capitals and decorations dating from between the 11th and 16th centuries, and a monolithic lunette with a bust of the Madonna in archaic style.
A historical archive holds testimonies and documents on the war, the Resistance and the Gothic Line, which reconstruct local events of the 20th century. The visitor centre presents the botanical and faunal features of the Alpe della Luna nature reserve and images of local traditions.
