About the museum

The museum is housed in the Palazzo della Residenza, the medieval core of a building that was the seat of the Conservatori del Popolo until the Malatesta conquest in 1371. The present structure largely dates from 1456, when the Sala dei Conservatori was redefined.

In that room is Piero della Francesca's Resurrection, the painting that has become the symbol of the town and of the museum; the artist's works also include the Polittico della Misericordia. The basement hall, with fourteenth-century vaults, hosts exhibitions.

The building was restored between 1991 and 1997, followed by anti-seismic works. The museum offers a virtual tour and guided tours by booking.
