About the museum
The Museo Cristiano e Tesoro del Duomo was founded in 1946 and has always been housed in premises adjacent to the cathedral of Cividale del Friuli. Its collections are linked to Cividale's recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its Lombard heritage.
The route, spread over four rooms, includes objects and works from the Middle Ages to the early modern period. The section dedicated to the Lombard heritage houses the Altare di Ratchis, an 8th-century work recently restored with the recovery of its original polychromy, and the Battistero di Callisto, associated with the patriarch of Aquileia who settled in Cividale in 731.
The Tesoro del Duomo brings together goldwork and liturgical objects, paintings, sculptures, manuscripts and sacred vestments; among the works are the Noli me tangere by Pordenone and two paintings by Veronese.
