About the museum
MAMbo was inaugurated in 2007 in the former Forno del Pane, an industrial building in Via Don Minzoni. It is part of the Area Arte Moderna e Contemporanea of the Musei Civici di Bologna and presents Italian art from the Second World War to the present, with solo exhibitions of Italian and international artists and an Education Department.
The permanent collection includes, among other things, the tapestry Homage to the Hollywood Squares by Francesco Vezzoli (2008) and a section devoted to the Settimane Internazionali della Performance (1977–1982).
Since 2012 the museum has also temporarily hosted the Museo Morandi, which holds over 250 works by Giorgio Morandi and is the largest public collection in the world devoted to the artist. The MAMbo ticket includes entry to the Museo Morandi. The building also has a library, educational workshops and a conference hall.
