Museum dedicated to the history of Italian basketball, housed in the PalaDozza in Bologna, with memorabilia, period images and interactive installations.
A route through five areas on the history of Italian basketball and the national teams, with historic shirts and trophies, original commentaries, videos and an immersive area with lights, sounds and images.
About the museum
The Museo del Basket Italiano came out of an ideas competition run by the Comune di Bologna and Bologna Welcome, whose international jury met in May 2019. The project was developed in collaboration with the Federazione Italiana Pallacanestro and found its place inside the PalaDozza, the city's sports arena linked to the history of basketball in Bologna.
The museum opened to the public on 18 April 2026 and is run by the Fondazione Bologna Welcome. The exhibition spaces cover around 400 square metres and combine original memorabilia, historical images, digital installations and interactive stations.
The route tells the story of the successes of the men's and women's national teams since 1921, the triumphs of the clubs, the iconic figures and the stories of players, coaches, managers, journalists and fans. Activities for schools and a space for meetings and presentations are also planned.
