About the museum
The museum presents an anthology of twentieth-century sculpture from Viggiù. The building that houses it, in the Parco Butti, was built in the 1960s at the request of the widow of the sculptor Giacomo Buzzi Reschini and, after careful restoration, reopened to the public in autumn 2006. It is part of the Musei Civici Viggiutesi network, together with the Museo Enrico Butti, the Museo della scultura viggiutese dell’Ottocento and the Museo dei Picasass.
The collection includes numerous plaster models by Buzzi Reschini, among them “Misticismo” (Mysticism) and “L’immacolata” (The Immaculate Conception), and works by other sculptors born or trained in Viggiù: Vincenzo Cattò, Gottardo Freschetti, Ettore Cedraschi, Luigi Bottinelli, Luigi Buzzi Leone and Nando Conti. Among the exhibited pieces are “Estasi” and “La preghiera” by Conti, “Gesù sul Monte Tabor” (Jesus on Mount Tabor) by Cedraschi, “La madre” by Bottinelli, “Maternità” by Freschetti, and a sketch for the competition for the fifth door of Milan Cathedral.
The artists are also presented with biographies that recall their training at the Scuola d’Arte Industriale of Viggiù and their later careers in Italy and abroad.
