The exhibition traces the history of the apple logo from 1976 to today, from its debut in the garage to today's devices.
The Museo del Calcolatore was founded in 1996 for educational purposes, at the Istituto tecnico “Paolo Dagomari” in Prato, as a virtual collection on the web. Since 2011 it has become a permanent exhibition: on 11 June 2011 the first visitors were able to see the collection, assembled from pieces recovered from the school's storerooms, from flea markets and thanks to numerous donations.
The collections include calculating machines from the early 1900s to 1990, arranged in an educational route: from mechanical calculators to the first and best-known Macintosh models, and on to the consoles that marked the history of electronic games. The museum, run by the volunteer association Museo del Calcolatore OdV, aims to make known the history of calculation, computing and its key figures.
Since 2022 the museum has been housed in a temporary site in Via dell'Aiale, in Prato's historic centre, and has become part of the Rete Musei di Prato. It offers free guided tours on the set opening days or by appointment, and routes for schools of every level, in which students can try out the historic machines themselves.
