About the museum
The museum tells the story of the Casa Ascione, founded in 1855 by Giovanni Ascione in Torre del Greco to transform raw coral into jewellery. During the 19th century the manufacture won awards at international exhibitions, including the gold medal at Porto in 1865, and in 1875 it was able to display the coat of arms of the King of Italy as supplier to the Royal Household.
At the beginning of the 20th century the business moved to a larger building in the city and, alongside serial production, made unique pieces in the Liberty style for an international clientele. The museum's route follows the company's stylistic phases, from the neoclassical and neo-Renaissance taste of the 19th century to Giovanni Ascione's design in the years after the Second World War, up to the most recent collections.
The museum is located in the angiporto (alley) of the Galleria Umberto I, in piazzetta Matilde Serao. Visits are always accompanied by a guide and require booking.
