About the museum
The Museo del Duomo di Fidenza opened on 30 October 1999, for the Jubilee of 2000, at the wish of Bishop Maurizio Galli. It houses works of art from the cathedral and from the churches of the diocese and is owned by the Diocese of Fidenza. Its administration is entrusted to the Fondazione San Donnino, while welcome and guided tours are looked after by the volunteers of the Amici del Museo.
The main seat occupies the east wing of the Bishop’s Palace, beside the cathedral, over three levels. On the ground floor are the entrance with ticket office and bookshop, an audiovisual room and the Sala della Maestà. On the upper floor are the Treasury of San Donnino and the picture gallery, with works from the 12th to the 18th century, including a Madonna by Benedetto Antelami and paintings by the Campi family.
A second, detached section is located in the north matroneum of the cathedral and houses wooden liturgical furnishings and a Tamburini organ of 1910. The cathedral façade, attributed to Antelami and his workshop, recounts the Passion of Saint Donnino, patron saint of the diocese.
