About the museum
The Museo del Falegname was founded in 1987 out of the founder Tino Sana's passion for the carpenter's trade. From a small space for keeping old workshop tools it has grown into a true museum, now of international standing, promoted by the company Tinosana of Almenno San Bartolomeo.
The exhibition extends over three floors covering about 3,500 square metres. On the ground floor the workshops of the carpenter, chair-maker, marquetry craftsman, sculptor, turner, luthier and birdcage maker are reconstructed. On the lower floor the route “from the tree to the wheel” covers the forest, the sawmill, the plough, the cooper, carts and boats. On the upper floor the life and trades of a village are recreated, with the tavern, the laundry, the shoemaker, the tailor, the Gioppino puppets and the history of the bicycle, including the Felice Gimondi collection, alongside means of transport such as aircraft and historic motorcycles.
The museum also holds a rich collection of antique tools from every region of Italy, dating from the seventeenth to the twentieth century, and a section on bicycles, including 220 wooden bicycles made by Tinosana and patented together with Bianchi. Alongside the museum there are a woodworking school, a study centre and a programme of workshops for schools and children.
