About the museum
The Museo del Gioiello di Vicenza presents itself as the first museum in Europe, and one of the few in the world, devoted exclusively to the art of goldsmiths and jewellers. It is located inside the Basilica Palladiana, in Piazza dei Signori, and occupies about 410 square metres on two levels.
The permanent route is organised in nine rooms with the titles Bellezza, Funzione, Magia, Simbolismo, Arte, Moda, Design, Icone and Futuro, curated by international experts. The museum also has a room for temporary exhibitions, with about two shows a year, and a bookshop.
In recent years the museum has hosted a biennial exhibition on Italian jewellery that explores material, technique and art, with about one hundred and fifty works from antiquity to the modern day.
