About the museum
The Museo del Mare was founded in 1996 in the historic palace of the Istituto Nautico “Francesco Caracciolo” in Procida, with the aim of enhancing the island's deep-rooted maritime traditions. Originally it was a teaching tool for the institute's students; today it is a museum of memory that preserves the passion for the sea of the people of Procida, made up of captains, sailors and fishermen.
The route has two sections: a bibliographic section with a historical archive, which documents the island's maritime tradition, and a section devoted to ex voto and to the devotion linked to life at sea, with some proverbs and folk songs about the sea.
