About the museum
The Museo del Modellismo Storico grew out of an association of model makers founded about forty years ago within a larger recreational group, under the name “Modellisti Ferraresi”. It took its present name in 1983, when it opened its first site in a former grain warehouse in medieval Ferrara. In 1991 it moved to Casa di Stella dell’Assassino and since 1998 has occupied its present site, a restored former middle school in Voghenza, a hamlet of Voghiera.
The exhibition extends over more than 450 square metres and is organised into theme rooms: civil and military vehicles, trains, record cars, a library, aircraft, ships, and a Renaissance cloister with dioramas of Renaissance Ferrara. Military uniforms and toy soldiers are also on display.
The main attractions are a large working model railway and what the museum describes as the largest public collection of record cars. Some members are on duty during opening hours to answer visitors’ questions; two touchscreen stations show the introductory videos of each room, and the izi.travel app offers audio guides and videos.
