About the museum
The museum is housed in Villa Mainona (sometimes Mainoni), in Tremezzo, the residence of the Mainoni family, built between 1670 and 1672 within a complex with a park, outbuildings and a tower. Run by the municipality of Tremezzina, it is dedicated to the environmental and cultural heritage of the Lario landscape, with particular attention to the Tremezzina area.
The collections include antique prints of the lake from the 16th to the 19th century, with views of Como, Bellagio and the villas along the shores, and historic photographs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries of the villages and the best-known residences.
A multimedia system with touch screens allows visitors to compare historic maps and images with the present-day use of the territory, while a “viaggio virtuale in barca” (virtual boat trip) offers a panoramic view of the shores in 19th-century motion. One section is devoted to films shot on the Lario.
