About the museum
The Museo del Paracarro is an open-air museum in the public park along the Fersina stream, at Canezza, a hamlet of Pergine Valsugana, at the start of the cycle path leading to Palù del Fersina. It presents itself as a museum unique in the world.
It was born from an idea of Dario Pegoretti, a cycling enthusiast and former road worker in Trentino: bollards from roads that played a major role in the history of cycle racing were piling up in the provincial depot, and so the idea of collecting them was born. Today more than two hundred types of bollards and road stones are on display, in granite, concrete, wood and plastic, coming from Trentino, from other parts of Italy and from abroad: Dolomite passes, Pyrenean hairpin bends and roads of the northern classics.
Each stone bears a small plaque dedicated to a cycling champion or figure, such as Fausto Coppi, Gino Bartali, Marco Pantani, Eddy Merckx, Jacques Anquetil, Felice Gimondi, Fiorenzo Magni and Louison Bobet, but also to domestiques such as Carrea and Giuliani. The museum is run by the association Canezza.it APS.
