About the museum
The Museo del Peperoncino in Maierà, in the Upper Tyrrhenian area of the province of Cosenza, tells the “six thousand years of history” of chilli. The route begins with a room of objects inspired by the plant, continues with the areas of origin and ends with seeds, spices and sauces.
Among the most important pieces are a lithograph by Renato Guttuso dedicated to one of the hottest chillies in the world, of Mexican origin, and an image of chilli from a 16th-century cookbook found in Frankfurt.
Visits are possible every day by appointment; they can be made with a printed guide or with an expert guide, and end with a tasting of regional products.
