About the museum
For about forty years Mottafollone has had a museum set up by the parish priest, Father Fiore Borrelli, in the parish premises, for the benefit of the whole community. The collection preserves a heritage of culture and history arranged in two departments.
The archaeological department displays evidence from the area, found by chance during normal farm work, dating from prehistory, the Bronze Age, Greek colonisation (Magna Grecia), and the Roman and Byzantine periods.
The art and religious department holds numerous wooden statues, including the Addolorata mentioned by Frangipane in his inventory of notable works in Calabria, canvas paintings with period frames, a large 18th-century choir antiphonary, silver furnishings and other objects of historical and cultural interest.
