About the museum
The Museo del Risparmio was opened in Turin in 2012 on the initiative of Intesa Sanpaolo, and presents itself as the first museum in the world devoted to financial education. It is housed in a building in the historic centre, in Via San Francesco d’Assisi, on the site where the first city pawnshop (Monte di Pietà) once stood.
The project is not a traditional museum. It uses 3D videos, interviews, theatrical animations, games and apps to bring adults, teenagers and children closer to the concepts of saving, investment and money management. Its declared aim is to help people make informed economic decisions.
The exhibition route is organised into thematic rooms: Conoscere (“Know”: history of money), Capire (“Understand”: shares, bonds, pension funds and other instruments), Raccontare (“Tell”: literature), Ammirare (“Admire”: ten works of art in an immersive form), Sognare (“Dream”: money in film), Sperimentare (“Experiment”: games) and Risparmiare (“Save”), with a collection of piggy banks. The museum also offers a broad educational programme for schools and workshops for families.
