About the museum
The museum was established in 1971 and occupies spaces integrated into the heart of the ancient convent of the Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Monte Berico in Vicenza, obtained from extensions carried out between the 15th and the 19th century. The present display derives from a complete survey of the artistic heritage carried out in 2020.
The route covers about 372 square metres in six rooms and presents over five hundred works, from the 14th to the 21st century, organised into six thematic sections: ex-votos dedicated to the Madonna of Monte Berico, iconographic evidence on the history of the sanctuary, liturgical furnishings and vestments from the sacristy and from the convents of the Servants of Mary (Servi di Maria), works linked to the spirituality of the Order, a collection of spontaneous offerings, and post-Byzantine icons from Greece, Russia and the neo-Byzantine tradition.
Among the main works are the “Sacra Famiglia” (Holy Family) attributed to Giovanni Antonio De Pieri, a “Pietà” attributed to Andreas Pavias, “Luce nelle tenebre” (Light in the Darkness) by Cagnaccio di San Pietro and various ex-votos from the 17th to the 19th century. The museum also manages the exhibitions in the multipurpose hall “Sette Santi Fondatori” (Seven Holy Founders).
