About the museum
The sanctuary museum was opened in 1959 and completely renovated in 1986–1987. It is located in the wing that links the Palazzetto del Duca di Tursi with the Ospizio de’ Poveri; the entrance is on the right side of the sanctuary façade, at the end of the ramp. The current display dates from 2009 and in its essential content keeps that of the 1950s.
The route combines the historic Museo del Tesoro and the Sala Peluzzi, opened in summer 2008, and is organised into five chronological sections: the 16th and 17th centuries, the room of precious objects (cella dei preziosi), the 18th century, the 19th century and the ex-votos. Among the most important pieces are the gold and gemstone crown and the necklace that belonged to Princess Maria Anna of Savoy, the sacred vestments, the silver liturgical service donated by Monsignor Agostino De Mari, and the collection of ex-votos, a sign of gratitude from the faithful to the Madonna of Mercy.
