About the museum

The house is located in the Bruciati locality of Albissola Marina, inland from the Ligurian Riviera. Asger Jorn, Danish painter and ceramicist (1914–1973) and co-founder of avant-garde movements, arrived in Albissola in spring 1954, drawn by the local tradition of artistic ceramics.

In 1957 he bought two old buildings with the surrounding land. With the help of his assistant Umberto Gambetta, known as Berto, he converted them into a home and workshop according to his own idea of free and spontaneous imagination.

Today the house is run as a house museum by the association Amici di Casa Jorn in collaboration with the municipality of Albissola Marina, and is one of the venues of the Museo diffuso di Albissola (MuDA). The route includes the permanent exhibition devoted to Jorn and his collaborators, housed in the rooms of the house and in the garden, as well as a bookshop and a reading room.
