About the museum
The museum is located inside the I.I.S. Ferraris-Pancaldo in Savona and documents the long history of the city’s nautical school. It occupies about 500 square metres and holds materials that document the history of the institute and of nautical training.
The route includes a gallery of portraits of graduates, historical photographs of Savona’s port in the early 20th century, models of historic ships, historic equipment from the physics and electrical engineering laboratories, ship’s instruments and working models of steam engines. Also on display are technical drawings made by students in the 1950s and 1960s, a classroom dedicated to port workers and a study library with antique books. Among the rarest items are a weather station with 19th-century instruments and a historic planetarium.
