About the museum
The museum is housed in the former locomotive depot of the Ferrovie dello Stato at Bussoleno, in the Susa Valley. The repair workshop, built in 1867, served the steam locomotives that hauled freight trains to France from 1907 onwards.
The structure covers more than 2,000 square metres and preserves evidence of railway technology from the early 20th century to today, with multimedia materials and interactive software currently being catalogued. The workshop is still equipped and carries out maintenance and restoration of historic rolling stock. The administrative building is to house a documentation centre on the history of railway and road tunnels and on the relationship between people and the Alps.
