About the museum
The Museo dell'Opera is part of the Casa della Musica, housed in the Renaissance Palazzo Cusani in Parma. The route traces four centuries of the evolution of opera in the city: it starts in 1628, when the Teatro Farnese inaugurated opera performances, and goes on to the Teatro Ducale of 1687 and the Nuovo Teatro Ducale, today's Teatro Regio, inaugurated in 1829.
The display is based on original documents, historical images, posters, multimedia tools and thematic sections. One area is dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi's relationship with Parma, including the first Festival Verdiano of 1913.
