About the museum
The Pinacoteca Stuard opened in 2002 under the scientific direction of Francesco Barocelli and is named after the Parma philanthropist and collector Giuseppe Stuard (1790–1834), whose collection forms the basis of the museum.
It is located in the south-eastern part of the former Benedictine monastery of San Paolo, around a small twin cloister. On 13 January 2016 a new display route was opened, enriched with paintings moved from the Town Hall palace and 19th-century works linked to the Accademia di Belle Arti di Parma.
The route covers a period from the 14th–15th centuries to the 20th century and includes archaeological finds, paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures and furniture, largely linked to the Parma area. The museum's emblem is a drawing attributed to Parmigianino showing a greyhound.
