About the museum
The museum occupies a complex of three oratories and eight rooms attached to the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta in Clusone, built between 1688 and 1698 in Baroque forms and consecrated in 1711. It was inaugurated in July 2011, on the occasion of the third centenary of the basilica’s consecration.
The route tells the story of the parish and of the building of the church through documents and panels. In the entrance hall are a 15th-century bas-relief with the crowned Virgin and angels and the 18th-century wooden cover of the baptismal font. In the former sacristy are preserved frescoes detached from the façade of the 15th-century oratory of the Disciplini.
On the upper floors are displayed a 16th-century canopy, a small collection of ex voto offerings, devotional paintings by Carlo Ceresa, Antonio Cifrondi and Lattanzio Querena, and two 15th-century panels with prophets from the old parish church. The collection is completed by reliquaries, monstrances and chalices from the 17th and 18th centuries, a processional crucifix from the workshop of Andrea Fantoni, a processional cross by Claudio Nani dated 1943, and a room dedicated to the Madonna with liturgical vestments and portraits of bishops and archpriests.
The western part of the complex, on the first and second floors, often hosts temporary exhibitions, while the eastern part is reserved for the permanent display.
